Today, more and more people are choosing tooth whitening treatments. And it has been affirmed that it can lead to sensitivity and soreness in exchange for a white and brighter smile.
If you visit a dentist that offers teeth whitening, you will learn that it is normal to experience soreness and discomfort after using whitening products or applying teeth whitening procedures. This soreness that you feel, however, is temporary and does not last very long especially once the whitening process is over.
The dental experts, however, do not have a single, precise reason as to why this sensitivity is experienced by so many people who either seek professional dental help or use home whitening kits like teeth whitening toothpastes, bleach and such. It is widely believed that this happens when peroxide comes into contact with the teeth during bleaching process.
Most of the whitening products use peroxide as the bleaching agent for the teeth which, in turn, may lead to sore gums and sensitive teeth.
There are various whitening products which you can use like strips that stick to the teeth, gel that is applied on the teeth with the use of a brush and/or dental trays. While some of these products are used in less than a week, others are used for two weeks, up to a full month.
Apart from those mentioned above, there are also daily teeth whiteners which can be applied for a few minutes every day. However, all these products are likely to cause some teeth and gum sensitivity. These sensations are not long-term and usually dissipate after a day or two. You can, however, contact your dentist if you experience severe pain.
